Mitaly Tannery Visit

Our team had an enlightening visit to Mitaly Tannery on October 19, 2023, conducting an initial assessment of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Lean manufacturing practices. Nestled in a green, eco-friendly environment, the factory showcased a unique blend of aesthetics and industrial operations.

During the visit, we interacted with Hazi Abdul Kashem, the Managing Director, who showed a strong commitment to bringing the factory to international standards. Mitaly Tannery is a 100% export-oriented business, employing 120 people and boasting a production capacity of 6-8 lakh sq. ft. The factory produces crust and finished leather, exporting to major markets like Mexico, USA, Italy, Spain, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Korea.

Observations revealed a focus on environmental sustainability, with Mitaly Tannery being the first chrome-free leather producer. The factory utilizes modern machines from Italy, although cleanliness on the production floor needs improvement. Safety measures include a committee, limited safety gear use during operations, and proper fire equipment. The visit identified areas for further assessment, emphasizing OHS improvements and collaborative efforts for enhanced international competitiveness.
