Training on Lean (5s) at Mitaly Tannery Ltd
On April 24, 2025, a training session on Lean 5S was held at Mitaly Tannery Ltd. Key personnel from the factory attended the session. The training was conducted by Project Leader, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Morshed, Deputy Leader, Dr. Abu Hamja, and Research Assistants Md. Mahfujul Haq, Mongsathowai Marma, and Md. Asif Mustafa.
The training covered essential aspects of the Lean 5S methodology, a key component of lean manufacturing aimed at improving workplace organization and efficiency.
House of Lean 5S: The concept of the “House of Lean 5S” was introduced as a framework for creating a systematic approach to organizing and maintaining a clean and efficient workplace. The five pillars of 5S
(Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) were discussed in detail. The importance of each step in laminating waste, optimizing workflow, and ensuring safety was emphasized.
Productivity Improvement: The session highlighted how the implementation of Lean 5S directly contributes to improved productivity. Through better organization, reduced waste, and streamlined processes, workers can accomplish tasks more effectively and efficiently. Practical examples of how 5S can be implemented in tannery operations were shared, demonstrating its impact on overall performance and quality.
The training emphasized that the successful adoption of Lean 5S principles could lead to higher quality products, increased operational efficiency, and a safer, more organized working environment. The session concluded with an interactive discussion on how to implement these strategies effectively within the factory.
